# Sub-workspaces API: one workspace per brand

> Run many brands from one live workspace. Each brand gets a sub-workspace with its own agents, calls and numbers, reached with your API key and one header, and paid from your wallet.

If your platform runs voice agents for many brands, give each brand a
**sub-workspace**. A sub-workspace has its own agents, campaigns, calls, phone
numbers, do-not-call list, knowledge bases and tools. It has no wallet, API keys
or console users of its own. Its calls are paid from your workspace's wallet at
your plan's rates, and you reach it with your own API key and one extra header.

Base URL `https://prod.voice.miraiminds.co`. Sub-workspaces sit under a workspace
that has [gone live](https://docs.miraiminds.co/general/tiers.md#your-plan), so the examples on this page use
the production address.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Sub-workspaces are off until your Mirai contact turns them on for your workspace
> and sets how many you can have. Until then, creating one answers
> `403 sub_workspaces_disabled`. You manage sub-workspaces through the API. The
> console shows your own workspace only, so a brand's agents and calls don't
> appear there.

## How it fits together

Your company's live workspace is the **parent**. Each brand is a sub-workspace
directly under it, with an id like any other workspace: `ws_` followed by 24 hex
characters. Sub-workspaces go one level deep, so a sub-workspace can't have
sub-workspaces of its own.

People sign in to the parent, and API keys belong to the parent. One key reaches
the parent and every sub-workspace under it. It can never reach a workspace
under another parent.

### What a brand shares with the parent

| Setting | Comes from |
| :- | :- |
| Wallet and balance | The parent. Every brand's calls are charged to the parent's [wallet](https://docs.miraiminds.co/v2/wallet.md). |
| Plan, tier and rates | The parent. A brand's calls are billed at the parent's [plan](https://docs.miraiminds.co/general/tiers.md). |
| Invoices and top-ups | The parent. One invoice and one top-up cover every brand. |
| Shared-line caller ID | The parent's, unless your Mirai contact has set one for that brand. It applies to calls that ring from the [Mirai shared line](https://docs.miraiminds.co/v2/phone-numbers.md#which-number-a-call-comes-from). |
| Webhook signing secret | The API key you sent. A brand's `webhook_url` deliveries are signed with that key's [Call webhook secret](https://docs.miraiminds.co/v2/webhook-secrets.md). |
| Request rate limit | The API key you sent. Requests for every brand count against that key's [rate limit](https://docs.miraiminds.co/v2/limits.md#rate-limits). |

Everything else belongs to one brand, and you see it only with that brand's
header: its agents, campaigns and calls, its phone numbers, its do-not-call
list, its knowledge bases, and its tools and tool secrets. An agent in one brand
can't be used for a call in another.

> [!WARNING]
>
> **Each brand has its own do-not-call list.** A number on the parent's list or on
> another brand's list is still dialled by this brand's campaigns. When an opt-out
> should apply to every brand, add the number to each brand's list. Consent and
> DND obligations sit with the business placing the calls; see
> [India calling rules](https://docs.miraiminds.co/v2/limits.md#india-calling-rules).

## Address a sub-workspace

Send your API key as usual, and name the brand in `Mirai-Workspace`:

```http theme={"system"}
Authorization: Bearer sk_live_YOUR_API_KEY
Mirai-Workspace: ws_5e0c7a1f9b3d2e6a4c8f0b17
```

* The value is the sub-workspace's `id` or the `external_id` you gave it.
* `X-Workspace` and `Workspace` are accepted as the same header. An integration
  that already sends `workspace` can keep its header name.
* The header works on every `/v2` route. The request then acts inside that
  brand: an agent you create belongs to the brand, and `GET /v2/calls` and
  `GET /v2/phone-numbers` list the brand's calls and numbers.
* Without the header, or with the parent's own id in it, the request acts on
  the parent as before.

To place a call for the brand whose `external_id` is `acme-skincare`, send that
value in the header. The agent must be one of that brand's agents; an agent from
the parent or another brand answers `404 not_found`.

A header that names no sub-workspace of your parent answers
`404 workspace_not_found`. One that names an archived sub-workspace answers
`403 workspace_archived`. See [errors](#errors).

## The workspace object

```json theme={"system"}
{
  "id": "ws_5e0c7a1f9b3d2e6a4c8f0b17",
  "object": "workspace",
  "parent_id": "ws_a83d61f02c9e4b75d10e6f3a",
  "name": "Acme Skincare",
  "external_id": "acme-skincare",
  "kind": "shopify",
  "timezone": "Asia/Kolkata",
  "currency": "INR",
  "profile": { "support_phone": "+919876543210" },
  "status": "active",
  "created_at": "2026-11-02T09:14:02Z",
  "updated_at": "2026-11-02T09:14:02Z",
  "archived_at": null
}
```

| Field | Type | Description |
| :- | :- | :- |
| `id` | string | `ws_` followed by 24 hex characters. |
| `parent_id` | string | Your parent workspace. |
| `name` | string | The brand's name. Unique among your active sub-workspaces, ignoring case. |
| `external_id` | string \| null | Your own id for the brand, such as its id in your system. Unique among all your sub-workspaces, archived ones included, so an archived brand's `external_id` can't be given to another. |
| `kind` | enum | `custom` or `shopify`. |
| `timezone` | string | The brand's IANA timezone, such as `Asia/Kolkata`. |
| `currency` | string | The brand's three-letter currency code, for your records. Calls are always billed in rupees from the parent's wallet. |
| `profile` | object | Facts about the brand that you want to keep with it. Returned as you sent it. |
| `status` | enum | `active` or `archived`. |
| `created_at`, `updated_at` | string | RFC 3339, UTC. |
| `archived_at` | string \| null | When it was archived. `null` while active. |

## Manage sub-workspaces

The routes below create and change sub-workspaces. Call them with your API key
alone. They act on the parent and refuse a request that names a sub-workspace in
`Mirai-Workspace`.

### Create a sub-workspace

```http theme={"system"}
POST /v2/workspaces
```

| Field | Type | Required | Description |
| :- | :- | :- | :- |
| `name` | string | yes | Up to 100 characters. Unique among your active sub-workspaces, ignoring case. |
| `external_id` | string | no | Your own id for the brand: up to 128 letters, digits, `.`, `:` or `-`, starting with a letter or digit. Unique for good: no other sub-workspace under your parent can ever use it, archived ones included. |
| `kind` | string | no | `custom` or `shopify`. Default `custom`. |
| `timezone` | string | no | IANA timezone. Default `Asia/Kolkata`. |
| `currency` | string | no | Three-letter currency code. Default `INR`. |
| `profile` | object | no | A JSON object of up to 16 KB with your brand facts. |

The answer is `201 Created` with the [workspace object](#the-workspace-object).

If the `external_id` is already used, or an active sub-workspace already has the
`name`, you get `409 workspace_exists`, and the response carries the existing
workspace next to the error. A script that timed out and retries with the same `external_id` can
read the brand it already made instead of creating a second one, as the code
above does. Check that `external_id` matches: a name clash with a different
brand returns that other brand.

```json title="409 Conflict" theme={"system"}
{
  "error": {
    "code": "workspace_exists",
    "message": "a sub-workspace with external_id \"acme-skincare\" already exists under this account"
  },
  "workspace": {
    "id": "ws_5e0c7a1f9b3d2e6a4c8f0b17",
    "object": "workspace",
    "external_id": "acme-skincare",
    "name": "Acme Skincare",
    "status": "active",
    "…": "…"
  }
}
```

When you already have as many active sub-workspaces as your limit allows, you
get `409 sub_workspace_limit`. Archive a brand you no longer serve, or ask your
Mirai contact for a higher limit.

### List sub-workspaces

```http theme={"system"}
GET /v2/workspaces?status=&external_id=&limit=&cursor=
```

| Query param | Description |
| :- | :- |
| `status` | `active`, `archived` or `all`. Default `active`. |
| `external_id` | Only the sub-workspace with this `external_id`. Use it to find a brand by your own id. |
| `limit` | 1 to 100, default 50. |
| `cursor` | From `next_cursor` of the previous page. |

```bash theme={"system"}
curl -G https://prod.voice.miraiminds.co/v2/workspaces \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer sk_live_YOUR_API_KEY" \
  --data-urlencode "external_id=acme-skincare"
```

```json title="200 OK" theme={"system"}
{
  "data": [
    {
      "id": "ws_5e0c7a1f9b3d2e6a4c8f0b17",
      "object": "workspace",
      "parent_id": "ws_a83d61f02c9e4b75d10e6f3a",
      "name": "Acme Skincare",
      "external_id": "acme-skincare",
      "kind": "shopify",
      "timezone": "Asia/Kolkata",
      "currency": "INR",
      "profile": { "support_phone": "+919876543210" },
      "status": "active",
      "created_at": "2026-11-02T09:14:02Z",
      "updated_at": "2026-11-02T09:14:02Z",
      "archived_at": null
    }
  ],
  "has_more": false,
  "next_cursor": null
}
```

This route uses standard [pagination](https://docs.miraiminds.co/v2/overview.md#pagination).

### Get and update a sub-workspace

```http theme={"system"}
GET   /v2/workspaces/{id}
PATCH /v2/workspaces/{id}
```

`{id}` is the sub-workspace's `ws_` id. To find a brand by your own id, list
with `external_id`.

`PATCH` takes `name`, `external_id`, `kind`, `timezone`, `currency` and
`profile`. Send only the fields you change. A `profile` you send replaces the
stored one. The uniqueness rules from create still apply, so a clash answers
`409 workspace_exists`.

```bash theme={"system"}
curl -X PATCH https://prod.voice.miraiminds.co/v2/workspaces/ws_5e0c7a1f9b3d2e6a4c8f0b17 \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer sk_live_YOUR_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{ "name": "Acme Skin & Hair", "timezone": "Asia/Dubai" }'
```

Both answer with the workspace object. An id that is not one of your
sub-workspaces answers `404 workspace_not_found`.

### Archive and restore

```http theme={"system"}
POST /v2/workspaces/{id}/archive
POST /v2/workspaces/{id}/restore
```

Archiving a sub-workspace stops API access to it: any request that names it in
`Mirai-Workspace` answers `403 workspace_archived`. Its agents, calls and
settings are kept, and its `external_id` stays reserved. Archived sub-workspaces
don't count toward your limit.

You can't archive a brand while one of its campaigns is playing. The request
answers `409 workspace_busy`. [Pause or stop](https://docs.miraiminds.co/v2/campaigns.md) the campaign first,
with the brand's header, then archive.

```bash theme={"system"}
curl -X POST https://prod.voice.miraiminds.co/v2/workspaces/ws_5e0c7a1f9b3d2e6a4c8f0b17/archive \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer sk_live_YOUR_API_KEY"
```

Restoring sets it back to `active`. Its name must still be free among your
active sub-workspaces, or you get `409 workspace_exists`, and you need room
under your limit, or you get `409 sub_workspace_limit`.

Both answer with the workspace object, showing its new `status`.

## Onboard a brand with your v1 code

```http theme={"system"}
POST /v2/workspace/onboard/shopify
POST /v2/workspace/onboard/custom
```

These two routes take the v1 onboarding body and answer in v1's shape. If your
code onboards brands on v1 today, point it at the v2 host and your v2 key, and
keep the body. Each request creates a sub-workspace whose `kind` comes from the
path. New code can call [`POST /v2/workspaces`](#create-a-sub-workspace)
directly.

| v1 body field | Where it goes |
| :- | :- |
| `name` | `name`. Required. |
| `currencyCode` | `currency` |
| `timezone` | `timezone` |
| `supportContacts`, `trustSignals`, `policyFramework` | Kept in the sub-workspace's `profile` as you sent them. |

```bash theme={"system"}
curl -X POST https://prod.voice.miraiminds.co/v2/workspace/onboard/custom \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer sk_live_YOUR_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "name": "Acme Support Line",
    "currencyCode": "INR",
    "timezone": "Asia/Kolkata",
    "supportContacts": { "phoneNumber": "+919876543210", "email": "support@acme.com" },
    "trustSignals": { "valuePropositionOneLiner": "Round-the-clock support for Acme customers." }
  }'
```

```json title="200 OK" theme={"system"}
{
  "status": "active",
  "workspace": "ws_0b9e4d2a7c1f6e3b8a5d9c04",
  "billing": {
    "type": "prepaid",
    "creditBalance": 48250.5,
    "negativeCreditAllowance": 0
  },
  "sub_workspace": {
    "id": "ws_0b9e4d2a7c1f6e3b8a5d9c04",
    "object": "workspace",
    "parent_id": "ws_a83d61f02c9e4b75d10e6f3a",
    "name": "Acme Support Line",
    "external_id": null,
    "kind": "custom",
    "timezone": "Asia/Kolkata",
    "currency": "INR",
    "profile": {
      "supportContacts": { "phoneNumber": "+919876543210", "email": "support@acme.com" },
      "trustSignals": { "valuePropositionOneLiner": "Round-the-clock support for Acme customers." }
    },
    "status": "active",
    "created_at": "2026-11-02T09:20:41Z",
    "updated_at": "2026-11-02T09:20:41Z",
    "archived_at": null
  }
}
```

| Field | Description |
| :- | :- |
| `status` | `active`. |
| `workspace` | The new sub-workspace's id. Send it in the `workspace` (or `Mirai-Workspace`) header from now on. |
| `billing.type` | `prepaid`. |
| `billing.creditBalance` | The parent wallet's balance in **rupees**. On v1 this field was in seconds. |
| `billing.negativeCreditAllowance` | Kept so v1 clients can read the response. The v2 wallet has no overdraft: a call is refused with [`402`](https://docs.miraiminds.co/v2/wallet#402-insufficient-balance) when the wallet can't cover a minute. |
| `sub_workspace` | The [workspace object](#the-workspace-object). |

Both paths answer `200`, including the Shopify path, which answered `201` on v1.
The errors are the same as for [create](#create-a-sub-workspace). The v1 body has
no `external_id`, so a retried request with the same `name` answers
`409 workspace_exists` while the first brand is active. Set an `external_id` with
[`PATCH`](#get-and-update-a-sub-workspace) if you want to address the brand by
your own id.

## See one brand's usage

Send the brand's header to the routes you already use:

* [`GET /v2/calls/summary`](https://docs.miraiminds.co/v2/calls#count-calls) counts the brand's calls and
  their live time.
* [`GET /v2/calls`](https://docs.miraiminds.co/v2/calls#list-calls) lists the brand's calls, each with its
  `cost_inr`. Add these up over a window for the brand's spend.
* [`GET /v2/wallet`](https://docs.miraiminds.co/v2/wallet#get-balance) shows the parent's wallet. The
  balance is shared, so it is the same for every brand.

Count this month's calls for one brand, or loop over every active brand:

## Coming from v1

On v1, your brands were workspaces under your organization. On v2 they are
sub-workspaces under your parent workspace.

When Mirai moves your brands from v1, each brand becomes a sub-workspace whose
`external_id` is its v1 workspace id. The `workspace` header your code sends
today keeps its value; only the host and the key change. A brand you create on
v2 through the onboarding paths has no `external_id`, so use the `workspace` id
they return.

Agents, calls and webhooks have a different shape on v2.
[Migrating from v1](https://docs.miraiminds.co/v2/migration) maps each endpoint and field. Send the
brand's header on each of those requests.

## Errors

| Status | `error.code` | When | What to do |
| :- | :- | :- | :- |
| `403` | `sub_workspaces_disabled` | You created a sub-workspace, or onboarded a brand, before sub-workspaces were turned on for your workspace. | Ask your Mirai contact to turn them on. |
| `409` | `sub_workspace_limit` | A create, onboarding or restore would take you over your limit of active sub-workspaces. | Archive a brand you no longer serve, or ask your Mirai contact for a higher limit. |
| `409` | `workspace_exists` | The `external_id` is already used, or an active sub-workspace already has the `name`. The response carries the existing workspace as `workspace`, next to `error`. | If its `external_id` is the one you sent, a retry already created it: use it. Otherwise choose another name or `external_id`. |
| `404` | `workspace_not_found` | `Mirai-Workspace`, or the `{id}` in the path, names no sub-workspace of your parent. | Check the id or `external_id`. A sub-workspace under another parent is answered the same way. |
| `403` | `workspace_archived` | `Mirai-Workspace` names a sub-workspace you archived. | [Restore](#archive-and-restore) it, or stop sending requests for that brand. |
| `409` | `workspace_busy` | You archived a sub-workspace while one of its campaigns is playing. | Pause or stop the campaign with the brand's header, then archive. |
| `400` | `invalid_request` | A field is missing or out of range, such as no `name`, a `timezone` that is not an IANA name, or a `profile` that is not an object or is over 16 KB. | `error.message` names the field. |
